Alexandria Tri Update a Month Later...

Time got away from me, yikes!

So the Alexandria triathlon...let's just say my heart rate was elevated way too high from Friday morning until the end of the race on Saturday. Friday night Tyson and I got up to Alex in time for dinner and some relaxation, however I was feeling constantly nervous. I feel like when you prepare for things well you shouldn't be the kind of nervous I was so I went to look at the course map and make sure I new where I was going etc but it wasn't helping. I think what I was most nervous about was swimming in a lane with 4 people, I had never done the swim in a pool before and didn't know how it would all work.

I tried going to sleep around 11 but didn't fall asleep till about 1, I kept saying "Katie this is just a workout" but I clearly wasn't getting it! I woke up around 6 and headed downstairs where my parents were hanging out in the kitchen, they kept laughing at how nervous I was and my dad gave me one of his many major pep talks.

Got to the race site and met up with Heather and her husband Jon, two of the greatest people on earth so we had a blast giggling our nerves away, or at least trying to. I was in heat 2 so I got to watch how it worked which was nice, they put you in a lane with people with similar swim times, I got in the pool and my heart was jumping out of my chest, when I got going I thought it would get better but I felt exhausted from the get go, a little frustrating but my time was fine and I hardly noticed I was in a lane with 3 other people!

I took off for my bike and was greeted with 30 MPH wind, not ideal but I just tried to sprint when I was with it and relax when I was against it. The bike seemed to go by fast and before I knew it I was back in transition to start my run.

Right when I took off my legs felt numb but heavy, very awkward feeling. I wanted to walk but remembered it took about 5 minutes for it to wear off. The course was only 3 miles and I never knew what mile I was on but thought I was keeping an okay pace.

When I was on the last leg of the run I got dry heaving and feeling like I was going to throw up, once I finished I quickly walked over to puke but just kept dry heaving, weird!

Overall it was a great course and a race I would love to do again in the future, I ended up 11th but know I can do much better time then I had. My transitions were WAY too slow and once I get more biking in and on the road I should be getting faster, hopefully?

I'm really looking forward to my next race in July which is Olympic distance, Lifetime is the greatest triathlon and always has great weather and the Pro's are there, so I better keep training:)
